The Texas State Independent Living Council

Looking for a Few Good Council Members

Composition

The Texas State Independent Living Council (SILC) is a fully incorporated, tax exempt, nonprofit organization with a mission to assure that all Texans with disabilities have access to quality independent living services by providing a framework for service delivery. The SILC is looking for dedicated individuals willing to uphold the mission and principles of the Independent Living Movement: peer support, self-help, self-determination, equality, and positive systemic change.

The SILC is comprised of 13 Governor appointed individuals, located in all regions of the state. Unlike most organizations, a majority of the members of the Council are individuals with disabilities. The Council meets quarterly at various locations throughout the state, and members are expected to attend all Council meetings, and all meetings of those Committees to which they are assigned.
