2012 Texas Statewide Independent Living Conference

Highlights
Recapping the 2011 conference:
The 2011 conference was a huge success! With over 350 attendees, SILC staff and board members would like to thank everyone who participated and volunteered. Without your enthusiasm and commitment to independent living our 2011 conference would not have made such a positive impact.
Seven key note speakers presented last year. Conference speakers include Debra Wanser, Marc Gold, Johnny Crescendo, Stephen Michael Kerr, Dennis Borel, Mary Gorden Spence, and Representative John Zerwas. While lecturers focused on advocacy in relation to their profession, breakout sessions allowed small groups of participants to debate and discuss relevant topics. Topics included assistive technology, Medicare, transportation, consumer directed services, and legislative advocacy.
The April 2012 conference promises to be just as good as last years! For a complete look at 2012 conference activities read through our agenda. It is located in the second tab on the horizontal menu. We look forward to seeing you there!

“After attending the TX SILC’s conference for the first time last year I felt empowered. I learned so much from conversations I had with peers and community leaders. The speakers and breakout groups allowed me to learn new skills and ultimately helped grow as an individual. I now feel prepared to advocate for myself and others in my community.”

“I never hesitate to register for the SILC conferences. Next year will be my fifth year attending the conference and I am more excited than ever! I have learned so many IL strategies from these conferences that have improved my everyday life in ways I never thought possible. I always leave feeling energized, positive, connected to fellow participants, and ready to tackle any struggle.”
