“Mapping Your Route to Wellness”

March 3rd-4th, 2008


This year's conference will explore many of the crucial elements essential to living well with a disability, such as:

  1. Adequate and economic nutrition,
  2. Adaptive exercise,
  3. Assistive technology for health maintenance,
  4. The role of spirituality,
  5. How to be a savvy health care consumer,
  6. Using programs such as the Medicaid Buy-in to maintain health care coverage,
  7. Best practices in mental health treatment, laughter, and creativity.

The target audience for our conference includes people with all types of disabilities, family members, rehabilitation counselors, independent living service coordinators, disability advocates, and all others interested in promoting health and wellness within the disability population. Continuing Education Units will be available to vocational rehabilitation counselors.

Award Nominations

The Texas State Independent Living Council will host an awards luncheon during the Conference to honor outstanding accomplishments by individuals or organizations, which exemplify or advance the independent living philosophy. The awards luncheon will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Award categories inlcude:

  1. Outstanding Achievement by a Service Provider
  2. Exceptional Contribution by a Community/Civic Leader
  3. Extraordinary Accomplishment by a Consumer / Person with a Disability
